Lettered Edition Details

Limited to 26 copies

Trimmed page size – 265 x 175mm

Signed by Abigail Larson and Professor Roger Luckhurst.

Printed letterpress on 130gsm Hahnemuhle Bugra Bütten mould made paper by Phil Abel and Robert Hetherington of Hand and Eye Letterpress. Text printed in black with additional spots of red on a Heidelberg cylinder press using photopolymer plates.

Text set in 12pt Baskerville and Open Kapitalen.

This edition is newly illustrated by Hugo award-winning artist Abigail Larson. There are thirteen full colour paintings, plus one colour frontispiece. All images, with the exception of the frontis, are tipped onto grey handmade paper by Paper Foundation, made entirely by hand at their mill in the English Lake District.

The Lettered edition is fully bound in polished, smooth red goatskin with a black over stain. The pattern on the binding is created by gently de-glazing the top stain combined with blind blocking and dye resists. The title is foil blocked to the front board in silver foil.

Endpapers are hand marbled paper by Freya Scott of Paperwilds.

The book comes in a bradel bound solander box, with the front board covered in stone effect Corvon material, the surface of which has the texture of stone. There are two ‘teeth’ cut out to reveal Paper Foundation handmade paper beneath. There are two circular red goatskin ‘puncture wound’ onlays beside the cut outs. The spine and back cover of the box are constructed in two additional pieces and bound in black goatskin leather which has been foil blocked in five passes, creating a cracked effect with the title overlaid in foil blocked silver.

The solander box trays are lined with paste paper made by Victoria Hall, and the trays themselves are covered in charcoal Colorado bookcloth.

This edition comes with a cloth covered portfolio of art prints which sits in the solander box with the book. The portfolio is foil blocked to the front, with a foil blocked paper label affixed above.

Please be aware that there may be minor alterations to the design as we enter the production stage.

Interior designed by Marcelo Anciano.

Bindings and binding designs by Richard Tong.

Lettered Edition Pre-Order Details

This edition is limited to 26 copies. All 26 copies, lettered A - Z, will be first offered privately to current Lyra’s Classics rights holders (those who are the registered Lettered edition rights holders of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz).

Rights holders will be contacted on Monday 12th October 2026 and will have until Wednesday 14th October 2026 to make their purchase. Any copies not taken up by current rights holders will be available to purchase by Purchase Registration ONLY.

Should this happen, the Purchase Registration form will be open on this page from 12pm BST (UK time) Friday 16th October 2026 until 12pm BST (UK time) Sunday 18th October 2026. If there are more registrations than copies available, registrants will be selected at random. Those selected will be notified by email on Monday 19 October 2026 and sent a payment link. The option to purchase will be in place for 48 hours from the timestamp of the notification email, after which any non-purchased copies will be offered to someone else.

There is a ‘one entry per household’ rule in place for registering to purchase this edition. We ask that you please respect this rule so that everyone has a fair and equal chance. If we find multiple entries, they will be deleted and you will be banned from purchasing this edition. If you accidentally enter more than once, please notify us so we can remove the additional entry.

If we fail to sell all copies via this method, the remaining copies will become available on the website shortly afterwards and you will be able to purchase directly through the shop page. All purchase limits will then be removed.

You may also register to purchase the Numbered edition.

See our new How To Purchase page to understand our rules around Purchase Registration.

Read more about how the Rights System works on the FAQ page.

We accept payments via PayPal, Stripe (credit card), Wise and direct bank transfer (if in the UK).

Lettered Edition Delivery Details

The cost of shipping is £25 in the UK and £55 for the rest of the world. The shipping cost is based on custom made boxes with foam, packing and booking time as well as the cost of the courier service.

All books will be packed into custom made, double walled cartons and surrounded by thick foam on six sides to ensure safe delivery.

Deliveries within the UK will be sent via a 24 hour courier. Delivery times elsewhere in the world will vary depending on your location, but we would hope that the books will largely be delivered within a few days at most. All services will be fully trackable and you will be sent a confirmation of shipping along with a tracking number when your parcel is booked with the courier. If you have a preferred courier service then do let us know and we will try our best to use them if they are available.

All international deliveries, including to the EU, now have full customs declarations. Any import taxes, customs duties or fees must be paid for by the recipient. Customs policies vary from country to country and you should contact your local customs office for more information. Customs clearance procedures may cause delays and extend our quoted delivery time estimates, for which we cannot be liable.

Please note - we cannot deliver to PO Box addresses.

We expect to have the books finished and ready to ship mid 2027.
